Gospel Reflection for November 4th, 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time: The great commandment to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves seems simple enough, but we know that it can be much harder than it sounds. “Everybody’s got a dark side,” Kelly Clarkson sings. Sometimes the people we encounter do things that are unloving. Sometimes we do things that cause us to feel bad about ourselves. In spite of this, Jesus still calls us to love.
Key Lines: Everybody’s got a dark side/Do you love me/Can you live mine?/Nobody’s a picture perfect/But we’re worth it/You know that we’re worth it/Will you love me?/Even with my dark side?
Questions: Why do you think Jesus says that love is the greatest commandment? Who shows you love even when you show your “dark side?” When do you have trouble loving your neighbor? How are love and forgiveness similar? Do you think there can be one without the other? When Jesus said “love one another,” do you think he includes those who cause harm to others? Why or why not?
