Current Music & The Gospel: SPIRIT XTRA for October 6

“Brave” by Sara Bareilles

Music Xtra for October 6, 2013: The disciples want Jesus to increase their faith. Jesus tells them that faith the size of a mustard seed can uproot trees and transplant them in the sea. Even a little faith can have huge results. Faith in your ability to do the right thing is often called courage or bravery. The song “Brave” reminds us of the importance of speaking up and letting that faith guide our actions, even if it is not the popular thing to do.

Key lines: And since your history of silence/Won’t do you any good/Did you think it would?/Let your words be anything but empty/Why don’t you tell them the truth?
Say what you wanna say/And let the words fall out/Honestly I wanna see you be brave

Questions: Who in your life has a history of silence? Who in your life has a history of speaking out and speaking truth? When was the last time you felt brave? How can faith and bravery work together in your life? Is it more difficult to be brave when speaking the truth to friends or to strangers? Why?
