Current Music and the Gospel: “Stubborn Love,” The Lumineers

Gospel reflection for March 17th, 5th Sunday of Lent: In Sunday’s gospel Jesus rescues a woman caught in adultery, a crime punishable by death. The woman feels ashamed, but Jesus turns his attention to those who condemn her, forcing them to recognize none of them are perfect. In this action Jesus shows us that compassion can be more powerful than condemnation and shame.

Key Lines: The opposite of love’s indifference/Pay attention now, I’m standing on your porch screaming out/And I won’t leave until you come downstairs/So keep your head up, keep your love

Questions: Who shows you love when you feel flawed? How do you show love to your friends and family? What qualities or behaviors make it difficult to love someone? What relationships have had the greatest impact on your life? How would you describe God’s love?
