Current Music and the Gospel: “Feel Again,” OneRepublic

Gospel Reflection for March 10, 4th Sunday of Lent: Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son tells two stories. The younger son’s story shows us God’s endless love and forgiveness. But we may feel sympathy with the jealous older brother who feels unappreciated and can’t accept his father’s response. The song “Feel Again” by OneRepublic reminds us how hard it is for the prodigal son to come home, not knowing what awaited him.

Key Lines: It’s been a long time since I’ve seen your face/I’ve been everywhere and back trying to replace/everything that I’ve had ’til my feet went numb/Praying like a fool that’s been on the run/Heart still beating but it’s not working/It’s like a million dollar phone that you just can’t ring

Questions: When have you felt like the prodigal son? Who can you count on to welcome you home? Who in this Gospel do you identify with the most – the prodigal son or the elder son? What does the father’s reaction to his son teach us about God? What is fair and what is right in this parable? When have you experienced what is right and what is fair as the same? When have you experienced them as different?
