“The Cave” – SPIRIT Xtra for October 30, 2011

“The Cave,” Mumford and Sons, Sigh No More, Glassnote

Gospel Reflection: Jesus calls us to service and humility in this Sunday’s gospel, neither of which is easy.  He criticized religious leaders who seek honor and power over others.  Jesus wants us to reach out to those around us, lifting them up and sharing their burden, as Mumford and Sons describe in “The Cave.”

Key Lines: I know my call despite my faults/And despite my growing fears/But I will hold on to hope/And I won’t let you choke/On the noose around your neck/And I’ll find strength in pain/And I will change my ways/I’ll know my name as it’s called again

Questions: Outside of church and school, who are some of your favorite teachers? Who do you see helping others in your community? What does humility mean to you? In what ways do you struggle with the call to be humble? How do you lift up those around you?
