When Jesus befriends Zacchaeus, he doesn’t care about the reactions from other people. In this Sunday’s gospel both Zacchaeus and Jesus show qualities of true friends – not caring about appearances or other people’s opinions, taking care of each other, and reaching out when in need. The song “Gone, Gone, Gone” is about the way we can care for each other, even when it isn’t easy.
Key Lines: When you fall like a statue / I’m gon’ be there to catch you / Put you on your feet, you on your feet / And if your well is empty / Not a thing will prevent me / Tell me what you need, what do you need? / I surrender honestly / You’ve always done the same for me
Questions: What qualities do you appreciate in a friend? Who are some of your true friends, and how do they show it? How do your friendships change as you get older? When is friendship hard? How do your actions reflect being a follower of Jesus?
