“Wake Up,” SPIRIT Xtra for November 27, 2011

“Wake Up,” Arcade Fire, Funeral, Merge Records

Gospel Reflection: Jesus warns his disciples to stay awake and aware for his return. This takes reflection and action keeping us doing what needs to be done. Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up” is a song about loving life aware, changing and growing, instead of “falling asleep.”

Key Lines: Somethin’ filled up/My heart with nothin’/Someone told me not to cry/But now that I’m older/My heart’s colder/And I can see that it’s a lie/Children wake up/Hold your mistake up/Before they turn the summer into dust

Questions: How do you focus on what is important every day when you are faced with many distractions? What do you watch for? What good things do you watch for? About what dangerous things are you vigilant? How does your access to technology distract you? How are connections you have through technology the same as connections you have in person? How are they different? How are the conversations different?
