Music and the Gospel: “Count Me In,” Switch

This week SPIRIT talks about what influences us, especially how what and who we love influence our decisions. SPIRIT describes a process for practicing how to make change together. The song “Count Me In” is about asking oneself, “If I don’t, who will?” It’s also about counting ourselves in, even when the obstacles to positive change seem impossible to beat. It challenges young people to use their gifts and be the change they want to see in their community and the world.

Lyrics: One more step, one more exhale / As I follow the way You lead / Feel my heart as it’s racing / Down the path You set for me / When the road feels unending / There’s a promise You reveal / When these days leave me empty / You sustain me even still / With every breath, You are reviving these wounded lungs / You keep me going when I can’t run / God, be my strength ’til the work is done, done

Questions: When have you made a choice without awareness of its ethical and personal implications? How can you make yourself and your community more aware of the consequences of their actions? What global issue interests you enough to learn more about it and become more involved in it? What are ways you can have a voice in our world?
